Jane, a painted cloth doll

$ 285.00
Jane is a one-of-a-kind doll. Made of linen cloth and stuffed with wool fiber, her face and hands are painted with acrylic paint, including her hair. The shape and materials of her body are based on those of fine leather or painted cloth dolls common during the 19th century.

Her clothing is sewn entirely by hand, the patterns based on period examples of full sized garments. Her muslin evening gown has a short train and blue silk ribbon sash to accentuate her waist. A corded linen petticoat supports the fine cotton fabric of the gown in a bell shaped silhouette. Her bonnet cap is tied by matching blue silk ribbons -- although she suffers the difficulty always caused by having little or no chin to firmly hold it in place! Women's garments during this period were often tied in place -- or held with a few straight pins, one of which would solve her cap slipping problem. All of Jane's clothing is changeable by means of ties -- we'll leave the addition of pins to your own discretion.
Jane hopes you'll continue to expand her wardrobe by making more gowns, stockings, shoes, cozy night clothes, etc. Or you can browse through our shop for more garments for her. She is especially fond of the red wool cloak and happily modeled it for the listing photo.

Even though dolls have been played with by children since the beginning of time, child safety concerns of our time suggests that our dolls and their clothing have enough small parts to render them unsuitable for children younger than 9 years old.
