Embroidered white blanket

$ 425.00
Wool Blanket, vegetable dyed wool embroidery thread , 72 x 88 inches
During the 18th and early 19th centuries plain wool blankets were sometimes embroidered at home to create more decorative bed coverings. It is difficult to know whether they were always used as the top-most layer, or whether they sometimes served simply as enjoyment for those who used them. This one is made from a thick, cream coloured wool blanket, made and lightly used during the 20th century--some of these blanket have a small amount of nylon fiber for added durability . The hand embroidered design is typical of those stitched by skilled needlewomen at home. The size is suitable for covering a three quarter (48 inches wide) OR double (54 inches wide) bed, with a base valance or dust ruffle.
